Xela Shopping

Fruits, vegetables, piñatas… You need it, Xela has it… Somewhere. Quetzaltenango has a lot of places to get your shopping fix in. If you enjoy strolling down bustling paths, sandwiched between fruit and vegetable stands, scoping out the best deals this side of Tikal, check out one of Xela’s markets such as Minerva Terminal or La Democracia. Looking for handicrafts but don’t want to walk too far? Check out Centro Comercial, right next to Parque Central. Xela also has a few malls, and many stores throughout the city. Whatever you are looking for, rest assured you can find it.

Markets

La Democracia - 1a Calle, Zona 3. Great for fruits, vegetables, new and used clothing, and pretty much everything else! Look around the street stalls and small stores lining La Democracia. The walk from Parque Central is not too bad, but you can always hop on a microbus with an ayudante (helper) yelling “Democracia!”

Minerva Terminal - 4a Calle 27 Avenida, Zona 3. Similar to La Democracia, you can find pretty much anything here. Spices, DVD’s, electronics, shoes, and much more. Remember that you can always try to bargain, but be friendly and reasonable. There is a huge discount store called Mega-Paca in the area. Look for microbuses going to "Terminal."

Central Market - This building is home to many small stores specializing in local handicrafts. It is right near Parque Central and provides an interesting setting for some bargain hunting. There are also a lot of street stalls outside that will have fruits, flowers, and much more.

Parque Central - There are always vendors in the park selling snacks and small items. The first Sunday of each month is a special day with an increased variety of goods and vendors.
